Early
M1935 Black SS Double Decal German Helmet This is
possibly the most exciting find in years and is easily one of the nicest
M1935 Black SS Helmets known to exist. This helmet is simply
incredible and absolutely stunning. The helmet retains close
to 100% of what appears to be a completely "factory"
Black finish. Realizing this is a one of a kind occurrence,
I sent the helmet to Kelly Hicks, who verified the authenticity of this
piece, and elaborated that this helmet appears to be the only known
example of an "Allgemeine" or SS- VT helmet that
features a straight factory finish instead of the refinish that nearly
all black M-35s display. The liner is a correct early M1931,
date stamped 1935. The leather liner has the size stamp embossed
which is what we see in early leather. The liner is size 58
and the leather is in nice condition. The name, 'Muller' is
written in the liner, as well as written in the rear skirt. There
is further writing in the leather but not legible, which is possibly a
unit marking, but just not sure. The liner does show evidence of
having a cloth name tag sewn in, but it was removed at some point.
The liner retains the original drawstring. The liner pins
match the exterior paint perfectly and exhibit nice oxidation and no
evidence of bending. The helmet is marked 66 in the
dome. This is a characteristic we often see in the early M1935 ETs
and worth noting that this helmet is also painted black inside including
the dome--hence the inference of the factory paint job. The classic
CA Pocher SS Runic Decal is 100% intact. It has a beautiful
gold toning and crazing from paint spirits of the finish underneath, as
well as having likely been polished during its use as a parade helmet. The
Pocher decal exhibits the inner border to the runes, which is
expected. The Party shield rates a 98%, as a
result of quite a bit of crazing from interaction with the paint and
from period polishing (there are trace amounts of ancient wax in
the vent holes). Given that this is a factory finished
helmet, there are no decals underneath, which would otherwise be
expected on the majority of black M-35s since they were re-finished
factory field grey helmets. There are several dozen black M-35s
known to exist in collections around the world, and this may be one
the only surviving example of a factory issued piece. As
early as it appears to be, it may have been a prototype or a part of a
special delivery of helmets to a group within the SS. The
answer to that is not likely to ever surface. The manufacturers
stamp ET66 is clearly visible and nicely stamped. The production
number is 2810 is nicely stamped. This SS helmet comes
from a family in Illinois and has been in their possession since 1950.
This rare Allgemeine helmet has been personally handled and
authenticated by noted author and expert in SS helmets, Kelly Hicks.
Kelly will feature the helmet on his website (click here to see more
about this fantastic piece) http://www.germanhelmetsinc.com/ss_steel_feature.htm
and will also feature it in his upcoming SS
Steel update. This SS helmet is guaranteed to be a 100%
authentic and comes with my Lifetime Guarantee and certificate of
authenticity. Sold Item #461
